– Diane C., Vancouver, BC
When we completed the exterior painting of a house in the Dunbar area of Vancouver, the house became such an envy of the neighbourhood, we were asked to paint more houses on the street.
The owners of this lovely stucco home had recently moved in but weren’t in love with the existing colour scheme. The house was not a heritage but had been designed and built to reflect the storybook style homes throughout the West side of Vancouver. The chunky stucco and wood trim gave this Dunbar home a timeless look. It just needed a timeless colour.
For the stucco we used Benjamin Moore Copley Gray (HC-104). Copley Gray is a classic grey that is perfect to use anywhere you have red brick features like walkways and chimneys. Originally, we paired this with Benjamin Moore Edgecombe Gray (HC-173). We decided the trim needed to be brighter so the windows would pop. The answer was Benjamin Moore Old Prairie (OC-42). The green undertone of Old Prairie complimented the Copley Gray. For the accent colour we switched over to Sherwin Williams Urban Bronze (SW-7048). We repeated this on the entire front door both inside and out to give a dramatic entrance.
One of the upsides to having an in-house carpentry team is our ability to take care of some of those small projects homeowners struggle to get done. These owners had a challenge keeping racoons from under their deck and had been using chicken wire to keep them out. Jim had the perfect solution that allowed access to the lower windows but also to keep raccoons out and kids from falling into the window well along the house. Jim custom made a removable wooden grade that matched the deck.
We call this kind of work PlusOne service and it’s just another way that Warline stands apart from other painting companies.
Once the house painting was completed it was time to tackle the back deck. The deck wasn’t ready for a complete rebuild but it was showing signs of age and damage from exposure. Warline used Festool sanders and extractors to clean sand the surface to bare wood. We used Sansin SDF in Butternut to re-stain the deck and give it a rich colour.
